Like spring cleaning, it readies you and your home for a new season.  But this time you’re ready for warm winter nights, cozy evenings around the fireplace and winter holiday decorations.  Fall is an ideal time to spruce up your home.  With kids back in school and starting a new year, look at autumn as a fresh start for your house, too.

  • Have your fireplace and chimney inspected, cleaned and ready for winter use.
  • Change your furnace filters for cleaner air and a more efficient heating system.
  • Fall is a good time to replace batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
  • Get your beds ready for a cozy winter.  Fall is also a good time to do twice-annual mattress turns.  Flip your mattress this fall and next spring, turn it end-to-end.  Launder or dry clean all bedding you don’t do every week, such as mattress pads, pillows, blankets, bed skirts and bedspreads.  Schedule a professional carpet cleaning or rent a carpet cleaner and do it yourself.
  • Clean out your kitchen cupboards and pantry, paying particular attention to baking supplies, pans and equipment that you’ll need for holiday baking.
  • Pull your refrigerator, clothes washer and dryer out from the wall and clean behind them (and retrieve any long lost socks!).  Brush dust off refrigerator coils and use a narrow vacuum hose attachment to clean inside the lint catcher of your dryer.
  • Don’t forget yourself.  Winter is the time for coughs and other ailments, so give yourself an immune boost and stock up on herbal remedies such as garlic.  Some people may choose to get a flu vaccine or take some other form of medication to increase their immunity to winter ailments.

Next blog we’ll talk about getting the outside of your house ready for winter.  But now, for all your cleaning, organizing, and de-cluttering needs, be sure to call No Time Cleaning Services.  My crew “goes where the dirt is”.

clean interior

I just bought a new car and I wish someone would have given me this list before I traded in my old car!  Every little thing will add extra value to your car or truck.  ( And don’t wait until you’re in the car lot to start!)

  • Replace the dome light if it’s burned out.
  • Get under the seats and remove any clutter including dust bunnies, receipts and dog biscuits.
  • Stick your hands between the seats and pull everything out you can. You might get lucky and find loose change.
  • Attack the glove compartment.  De-clutter it so only the owner’s manual, insurance papers (if required) and the registration are inside.
  • Buy a replacement owner’s manual if you no longer have the original.
  • Remove devices like radar detectors, MP3 players, cell phones, navigational devices and other valuables.  They could “innocently” disappear while the car is being inspected.
  • Lubricate the door and trunk hinges if they squeak.
  • Replace the gas cap if it’s old.  A dirty cap makes a buyer wonder if there are potential fuel line problems.
  • Get new lug nuts if yours are in bad shape.
  • Got junk in your trunk?  Either get rid of it or throw it in your garage.
  • Make sure the spare tire and jack are where they belong.
  • Rusty jacks should be cleaned and repainted if necessary.  (Make sure the paint is dry before you put it back!)
  • Arrange for a professional detailing from a top-rate company such as No Time Cleaning Services. (You know I did!)

Good luck and happy driving your new wheels!

Car owners know that if their busy schedules don’t permit them to wash their cars, automatic car wash centers are the quick and convenient solutions. It just takes about 5-10 minutes to have a vehicle cleaned through a car wash.

Car washes may be fast and convenient, but they also have their drawbacks, especially when it comes to details.  Car washes offer less effective cleaning and removal of dirt and grime.  Most vehicle owners know that washing isn’t enough.  There’s also the need to polish and wax. Though some car washes offer polishing, it’s just not the same in thoroughness as that in hand washing.  Also, most car washes depend on air drying, or at times, hand drying with a towel. These approaches tend to leave massive water spotting and scratching.

For more effective and more detailed car cleaning, hand wash is better.  This is especially true for owners of expensive, vintage automobiles.  Hard to reach areas are cleaned.  And since claying, waxing, and polishing are thoroughly done, luster is restored, embedded contaminants are removed, and trouble spots are addressed.  Also, effective, safe, and sustainable cleaning products and tools are now available to make hand washing faster and more thorough.

carpool1

It’s time to get your car ready for – CARPOOLING!!!  Because of the failure of many district school levies, if you have children in school, and live more than a block away from that school, you may have to drive your children and CARPOOL!  I’m sorry, but those long lines of cars, waiting to pick up after school, are aggravating to those of us without children in school.  On a two-lane road, we’re stuck!  So I’m begging all of you to please carpool.

To help you out, I found simple rules for you to follow.  You can read all of them here, but here are a few of my favorites – both versions!

Student – When you see me standing with my friends, do not make eye contact with me.  I see you, but that doesn’t mean I want to admit to actually having my mother pick me up from school.

Mom – If I see you standing with your friends and you ignore me, I will not only make eye contact, I will wave.  And? It won’t be just a regular wave.  It will be over the top and frantic as if I am waving in an airplane for landing.

Student – Absolutely no kissing or hugging me when you drop me off.  I mean, gross!

Mom – If I tell you to have a good day and (heaven forbid) tell you I love you when I drop you off and you decide to ignore me, I will most definitely roll down the window and shout, “Make good choices!”  I have done it before and will do it every time.  You have been warned.

Student – It is completely acceptable to be about 15 minutes late in order for me to hang out with my friends.  Unless I want you there as soon as school lets out.  You will not know which day I prefer which option, but I will give you attitude if you chose incorrectly.

Mom – When I do arrive to pick you up – whether I am 15 minutes late or right on time – that is your clue that it is time to leave.  If you decide to pretend not to see me, please refer to rules 1-7 because they will immediately go into effect.

Now that you’re back in the carpool, you’ll notice that you need the clean the sand, water bottles and empty sun block containers out of the car.  Call a professional.  You have more important things on your mind, don’t you??

decals

Does your car, truck or RV embarrass you?  Do you really want everyone to know who you voted for in the last election?  Now that your child is married with children, does anyone care that he was once an honor student?  How about that trip to the Grand Canyon – was the food in that restaurant really that good that you’re still advertising it?

It just might be time to get rid of those decals!

Decals come in many forms, shapes, sizes and colors.  There are stock decals as well as after-market varieties.  The rules of removal apply to all types.

1.     Try peeling the sticker off with your fingernails.

2.     Heat vinyl stickers with a hair dryer or heat gun. Direct the heat from the blow driver evenly over the decal to warm the glue beneath it. Keep the blow dryer moving so you don’t keep the heat directed in one place for more than a few seconds. Heating the paint too much can cause it to be more easily damaged.

3.     Use a plastic squeegee to gently peel off the decal, pulling it off at a 90-degree angle while heating the next section.  Use more heat on the decal if it cools off.  Peel until all of the decal is gone.  Some or most of the glue will remain.

4.     Put a solution of 1 c. rubbing alcohol and 1 c. water in a spray bottle.

5.     Squirt the sticker with the solution and allow it to soak in for a few minutes.

6.     Rub the sticker or adhesive off with your fingers.

7.     Wash the area with mild soap.

As always, remember that cleaning by an expert is always the way to go.  Call No time Cleaning Auto Detailing – we come to you!

Another week of 90° weather in northeast Ohio.  And your car needs a wash and wax, doesn’t it?  Frankly, it might not be a good idea to do it yourself.  If the car body gets too hot, when you apply the wax, it dries instantly and you will not be able to buff it off until it cools down later.  Don’t forget, the way to get that “show car” shine, is in the buffing action, not the wax application.  So after you rub the wax off, just polish, polish, and polish, over and over, until you think your arms will fall off!  For easier waxing, use liquid wax and apply in a covered area or garage.

You know what’s coming next – LET THE PROFESSIONALS DO IT!!!!  My crew will do the job in a nice shaded area or air-conditioned bay.  More importantly, they love to detail cars!  They’re experts at it.  Find your arm exercises somewhere else – Call No Time Cleaning to get that car “show car” clean.

No Time Cleaning Services – Military Style Cleaning with a “White Glove Touch”

There is nothing like family and friends getting together on the 4th of July.  Slabs of ribs are smothered in Grandpa’s special barbeque sauce and sizzling on the grill. Uncle Will swears Grandpa adds Jack Daniels to his sauce.  The aroma of grandpa’s special ribs is intoxicating. Grandma’s potato salad just can’t be duplicated.  Try as you might, there is always something missing. Grandma never wrote down the recipe – she just adds a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and there you are.  Add a dozen ears of corn roasted on the grill and mom’s salad with her special dressing.  Aunt Tina always brings her fruit salad.  She carves out a basket from a watermelon and adds cantaloupe, watermelon balls, grapes, oranges, nectarines, and pear slices.  Rumor has I that she marinates the fruit in something special.  Oh – it’s so good.  These are memories of family and friends that will always be close to your heart and are priceless.

Tip of the Day:

Family and friends leave a mess on your deck?  Did that barbecue sauce spill in your trunk?  Call No Time Cleaning Services to make it right.  “We go where the dirt is!”

That haze you find on your car’s headlights is caused by oxidation and is a common occurrence in older vehicles. Oxidized headlights not only detract from the appearance of your ride but limit your visibility when driving at night.  Depending on the model of your vehicle, new replacement headlights can cost a few hundred dollars.

A cost effective alternative is to apply an anti-oxidant remover on your headlight to restore its clarity.  After applying the anti-oxidant, don’t forget to apply a sealing agent. There are many products to choose from but the wise choice is to purchase a kit containing an anti-oxidant, the sealing agent, and application pads.  You can find the kit at Auto Zone for under $20.

Sparkling headlights add the finishing touch to an impeccably detailed car.   Are you too busy to take the time to pamper your ride?  Call No Time Cleaning Services today – we pay attention to detail.

Tip of the Day:
An inexpensive way to clean raised letters on you car, truck or van tires is using SOS.   SOS removes unsightly scuffs and leaves your raised letters a sparkling white!

car

We all love our cars. And perhaps our proudest moment is when the car is new and looks its best.  A car, however, is not like a painting which serves its purpose in a controlled and safe environment.  It is subjected to all sorts of abuses including the sun, dirt, and smog, all of which can affect the best automobile.  But you can keep your car in new condition just like a painting protected in a museum.

Five Steps to keep your car looking its best.

1. Avoid scratches as much as possible

We start with scratches.  Why?  Because they are the biggest enemy to your car’s finish.  And avoiding scratches is the secret to keeping your car looking good.  Dirt and grime, rubbed in while washing or drying, will act like sandpaper and dull your car’s paint.  There is one basic rule that will guide you whenever you touch the surface of your automobile:  Anything that comes in contact with your car’s finish should be soft.

2. As much as possible, protect your cars finish from the elements.

This means storing the car in a garage or covered area.  Also, the use of a car cover is highly recommended. A car that is constantly exposed to sunlight and other environmental hazards will deteriorate quicker and require significantly more cosmetic maintenance.

3. Always keep a good coat of wax or paint sealant on the car.

In addition to providing gloss and depth, wax will also protect your car from the elements, including sunlight and many other circumstances that you will encounter, from bug carcasses to bird droppings.

4. Be aware of your car’s finish.

Make regular quick inspections of your cars surface a habit.  Look it over and note its condition, keeping in mind its recent history and what you anticipate will happen in the future.

5. Make a habit of detailing your car.

In most cases, washing your car once a month is adequate.  Once every two weeks is better and necessary if the car is subject to harsh conditions.
